I was hoping you could help me with your opinions.

do you think this is amateur or professional work?

And if an accomplished artist, does anyone have any clue who the artist may be?

It appears to be signed H. SCH.

there are a lot of H_____ Sch______ artists..

I see that Hans Schoellhorn signs his name H. Sch but it is not all caps like my painting.

Anyway I would be interested in what you guys think of this.

    thanks a lot

I think the artist was heavily influenced by Cézanne.

I don't know where 'Kitchen Table' was before the Orsay but it's possible yours is a copy done in a museum. Copyists were able to work directly in front of paintings in 1961. (That's the date on the frame's back and works with its design.) Given you have a copy, either a student work or done by a commercial artist who sold reproductions.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Nice spotting Debora! But it sure looks to me like whose ever signature that IS, it's been heavily "played" with.......and it looks like there's VERY tiny writing along the very edge of the frame after the 1st H and then all along after the final letters....I've lightened it.......WONDERING IF Samuel would want to take it out of the frame or at least look along that lower edge to see if there actually IS the writing I see along the bottom edge????

It was probably in the Jeu de Paume Gallery, which is where the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings were before the Orsay was opened. The times I was in the Jeu de Paume there were always students copying paintings.

Hints of cubism, completely different colour choice ... as student copies go ... well, I really like your painting. Hope you do too. :)

I'm wondering if it's by the famous German copyist Hinnerk Schweinigel.

Schweinigel is a mixture of a swine and a hedgehog; as is the famous and better known Schweinehund...

Hinnerk is the form of Henry used in Northern Germany.
    sorry for your search.:)
