Brake light? It wasn't meant to be removable easily, looks like. The kerosene guts are missing.

Maybe it's a lantern missing its handle.

Could be a carriage lamp, too.

We don't have the scale so it's hard to be sure. Meant as a rear light for something though; that's what the red lens means.

Good point. Maybe it's for a car. This one says it for a Model T:

With the red lens it could be nautical light. Red for Port /green for starboard.

OK thanks everyone. so most likely mounted on the back of a vehicle as a brake light. Do we think this was an electric light? Did they put kerosene lights on old cars? It looks very similar to the shiny one above which may have been from a Model T. Here is a picture with a ruler. It also looks like the lantern with the handle. But from the bolt in back is was clearly meant to be mounted on something red9.jpg

unfortunately the bottom is missing. looks like the bottom is the kerosene lamp. no markings on this one except on the red lens. sure looks like a Model T tail light to me. thanks! cool antique for my collection

It's from a MODEL T, PRE ELECTRIC LIGHT MODEL, I have them on my antique camp trailer , they are kerosene, and will stay lit at 65 mph ....they are amazing. I also own a 1926 Model T Speedster .
