    kyratango Bug jewellery addiction!

Better to have first a museum advice... not to be screwed in your hurry to sell;)
An antique dealer may offer only the scrap gold value...:shifty::facepalm:

  2. Do you think that it is a genuine piece of history
If so I would defiantly rather sell to a museum of interest
    Again thank you

If I am right about the historical connection to the region it was found in, which is very likely given the way you found it, it would be of interest to a museum.
They could also have the gold tested to see if it is indeed from the region. If I were an Aussie museum curator I would jump for joy.:)

You really need to find out what you have before selling it. Firstly is it really gold?
You can measure the specific gravity of it easily at home although if it was from early gold mining it may not be pure gold so be aware of that.

Then take it to a large gold/silver/coin specialist in the city who has an XREF non destructive gold tester. For a few bucks they can test it for you and probably produce a readout of all the impurities found which may point to the gold field the gold came from.
When you get to that stage you will know if it is real or not so let us know what happens. I guarantee we'll have lots of more advice.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
    Cheers

May I suggest that if you don't have one you GET A SAFE!!!

  8. Thanks for the tutorial and the information I have had a test done just at a gold pawnbroker and it returned a 14k Reading
Was going to get a higher karat test but didn’t want to damage it once I knew it was gold was enough for me to start researching it origin
I’m in Brisbane Wondering if you could recommend anywhere I could go to have it proper tests done

Your local main library will know. Information Desk can get almost anything.

  10. Yes I have it stored in a safe allready,
    Thank you

  11. I’ll do that an let you know what results I can get back from the proper tests
If everything does check out and originate from back in the mining days in the early 1800’s how much could the value of it potentially be worth

That is a question only Australian experts on this specific subject can answer.
It would be post-1851, not early 1800s, but an expert will know that too.:)
And we are very grateful for any updates, I can't wait to hear more.

No, it is a proper little votive statue. The Vishvavajra image on the bottom serves to keep the Buddha grounded while he is meditating, creating a perfectly balanced connection between heaven and earth.

Here is an engraved open-ended Vishvavajra on the base of one of my Buddhas:

Sorry to ask since this thread isn't about photos, per se, but can you tell me what to do to shrink a photo on Windows 10? Don't have an iPhone.
