    That's not masonite, but rather something we used to call "press board" - a type of particle board. No idea how old it is, but yours is definitely not a new piece and I would guess pre-1960s from what little I could see of it. --It's a fine texture, much smaller particles than what is made for building construction.

    This looks like MDF (Medium density fiberboard) Not in use in any large scale manner until the 80s.

    IMHO...It resembles QUIMPER HR Henriot French Faience....in styling. Perhaps someone was trying to achieve that look for the wall! Does look like it is on Masonite.
