What do I examine underneath? And when you say underneath you mean like from inside the drawer?

Look at this sucker I pulled out of the top of the tall dresser! I have no idea why it was put there because it didn’t seem to support anything. 014BB620-B66D-45E7-94DE-A504A05B3FF8.jpeg 4DF80CF3-234C-43F8-A3C7-6F4B4C278AE2.jpeg

Wow, jcap, you are a "giterdun" kind of girl! I'm impressed! I have to think about things for few years b-4 I start something, then take at least six more to finish it.

Ahhh what do I do about these teeny tiny nails sticking out? I’ve tried pulling them but they are soo small and no hammer hits them since they are in the groove. I tried painting over them but they stick out too much. 331B88B1-F976-4F77-BA79-A757970AB8E7.jpeg 36126A25-C389-4AEE-8BF6-72DCE73BE32E.jpeg 0F289D04-46FE-4A3D-913B-601D80BAE021.jpeg

    Hi,
I would use a nail punch and hammer below the surface so they could be covered and hidden with the finish.

I had to google what a nail punch was, never heard of it, great idea! I don’t have one, but I just took my Phillips screw driver and hammer and it worked! Thanks so much!

What do you guys think? Do you see in some areas it’s a little streaky, do I jus add another coat? Or will it go away when I add the Polycrylic top coat? But if I do need to add another coat I don’t want it getting much more darker. 00C5EEC3-E901-4DE4-BEBA-97850495A640.jpeg 08FC7EED-3498-492B-B3E8-32D39F9CD3A0.jpeg 8007E124-5C69-4B05-8DAF-C57FEF327F34.jpeg

I have a good amount of experience with refinishing - Your steps above look good. I have found that a wet sand works beautifully in between coats of paint - really smooths the paint, and keeps it thin. remember to put tape around the joint areas on the drawers for a cleaner finish there. General Finishes makes a nice milk paint for furniture refinishing and they have a good selection of glazes as well. If you glaze, make sure to put a top coat over the paint first. Then the glaze will glide on and wipe off easily.

How many coats of the blue to you have on so far? Sorry I am way behind in this thread... lol. If only one coat I would go for another coat, yes. Pretty blue! Would look great slightly distressed with some glaze as well. Make sure to top coat before you glaze if you end up doing it!

The glaze will also minimize the streaking if you are worried about that.

Second coat will not make it darker. Should even out the streakiness. Top coat will not even it out. That is one bright blue! Glaze would tone it down a bit but should paint to your preference.

Thank you! There are two coats so far of the blue. I think I will do one more. What is glaze and do you have a brand you recommend? Is glaze wax?

I need to make sure that whatever I put on will be a strong durable protector because I don’t want it to get easily ruined from cups or plates being placed on it, my husband can be very messy and doesn’t pay attention.

Glaze should go on after you have put one coat of protectant seal on it, and offers dimension / depth to the "nooks, crannies, lines, edges" of the dresser. Glaze will change the overall color of the piece (will tone it down), so perhaps if you try it, do a sample board first to make sure that you like it. General finishes makes nice glazes in several colors, but again, depends on your preference. I sent a few photos of blue dressers with darker glazes to give you an idea.
You would paint on the glaze to small sections at a time and then quickly wipe off the glaze with an old lint free rag. The glaze will remain in the low points of the dresser (lines) and will lightly color the flat areas (unless you make sure to wipe off completely). Once you are done glazing / drying, then top coat again (poly or similar). Glaze works similar to wax (it is not wax) but adds a little more overall color than wax and is not as matte. There are lots of "applying glaze" videos in addition to the one I posted above. There are lots of brands but I can only speak to GF (not a rep lol). Good luck!

What color glaze do you guys think I should do with this blue?

Surprised the paint is as streaky with two coats. Did you stir very well?

    Yes, I did.

Do you mind if I ask what type of paint you used? And you primed with a stain blocking primer?

In terms of color of glaze, perhaps google a few different options to see how they look. The below link is a short tutorial with black glaze and the one below it in brown.

I have only worked with general finishes (after doing a ton of research) so do not know much about other brands but there are many to choose from. I can only recommend to do a sample board with the blue then glaze prior to doing the dresser before you apply to the whole dresser in case you do not ike it.
