    Hello :happy:
    I found this postcard of a painting and photograph of the same painting amongst my Grandmother's things. Her maiden name is Roffey and it seems the painting is of the Roffey family. I am hoping someone may know the history of this painting. Any clues would be wonderful.
    Thanks so much.

    Yes, I can find a lot of info on the artist - thanks @moreotherstuff but nothing on the Roffey family in the painting. The family tree I have found only goes back to approx 1790 so not quite far back enough. ;)

    A good place to start research on the British aristocracy is Burke's Peerage and Debrett's. Local libraries usually have copies.

    Thanks Debora. That's a great suggestion. I will give it a go and see what I can find out :happy:

    That would be amazing, Tracy, if you are directly related to the sitters!

    @TraceyB

    If you don't mind paying, there are specialist companies that will research all of this on your behalf.

    I know it can be done at home but these guys are on the ball and have access to lots of information and paper work.

    We did it in the 90's and went further back in 2015.

    Although I am a Yorkshireman my ancestors originated in Surrey the same as yours.

    I've gone back to 1729 and have copies of birth, marriage and death certificates.
    It was really worth the money.

    Thanks so much. Would I search ancestory UK to find the companies who offer this service? :happy:

    Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy.

    I used this company and can highly recommend them however other companies are available.

    My first one was £290 (AU$511)
    Second one which my Dad added his maternal side to was £600 (AU$1057)

    But its done now and no family members has to research it further , just add to it,:rolleyes:
