Wondering where this one came from and the rest of the 411? It’s quite heavy weighing over 3.5lbs. I’d guess India but I don’t know. Came in the lot I mentioned in another post. It’s quite the thing. 3DAF7245-2EEF-4FE5-867E-68416CCC5454.jpeg 2BA38AAB-CBCF-4CAE-AC33-707CEDA107F8.jpeg C47702A5-E89B-4167-B48A-73CAB0A7B79D.jpeg

What..... you're not going to model it for us?:woot:

But seriously, it just doesn't look like a robe to me.

I seriously did consider trying to put it on. Just for S’s&G’s though. Certainly not to document it. However you’d actually need two people to help you put it on. Despite being so heavy the fabric is extremely thin and fragile. There is already a few tears. I suspect from being picked up and handled without care. I may have even caused one or more. You don’t realize how much weight is going to pull on certain points until you’ve moved it around in your hands a bit.

you’re right that it’s not a robe in the sense we would typically think ok. I just didn’t know what else to call it. I’m sure it has a name, whatever it is.

Edit: shawl maybe? As far as an English term goes.

How does it fasten? Or is it stitched shut at neck and arms?

    Stitched, no fastening.

So it's a rectangle of embroidered fabric that someone has stitched? To close at what might be the neck and arms?

    I think @Debora is right!
Looks like someone stitched a rectangle together to form a rudimentary garment....?

It’s the one I mentioned I was confused by. What “might be” is correct.

It looks like an Indian 'dupatta' that was made into an opera coat.

Dupattas are long shawls or veils that are worn with a dress, a wide skirt and top combination (ghagra choli) or with the 'shalwar kameez' of Muslim women. It is worn in India, Pakistan and Bangla Desh, but this looks like an Indian dupatta.
