I've been given this beautiful dish and would like to know more about it, if anyone can help, please.
I've done some research and have decided it's 1938 because the mark just has 'England' within the circle but I'm stumped with the pattern name. I've trawled through hundreds of web pages including the replacement sites.
    I do hope it's not a fake!
Thanks in advance for any insight.

    Thank you Judy!
That's one of the websites I trawled through - every page! Either I'm useless at matching or it's not there :-/

It's almost as if someone's tried to copy 'Chintz Blue Anemone' or it's a forerunner to that.
Blue Anemone - below - is the only one I can see with the pale background (grey on mine) and the droopy flowers plus sprays of green leaves.

It doesn't look like Anemone to me. There are many Chintz patterns.

    This one is called Marion.

Is this one yours? Very similar.

Also you might try the pattern number as written on the back of yours.

    It's a beautiful plate.....I love Chintz myself.

I can see that it's close, but no cigar.

Someone here might be of useful help......don't give up the ship.

Marion's also a similar one but mine doesn't have *any* bunches of flowers, Judy :-/
Which bit is called a cigar? The greenery by the droopy flowers?
I read somewhere that the number was the artist's number - is that not true?
And I have tried to search via that too - 4550.....

I'm sorry to say that I didn't read much of the descriptions, so I don't know the reference to something being called a cigar.

Now I'm confused Judy as you wrote "I can see that it's close, but no cigar." :-/

:hilarious: You're not American, diewarner? "Close but no cigar" is a long time saying here - originating in carnival games of skill - when your attempt to hit the target gets close but does not hit the correct place. The prize was a cigar - but you don't get one because you missed. ;)

You're very welcome! I hope you get an ID on your lovely plate. Unfortunately, I'm no help on that score.

I’m thinking it might be a chintz pattern which was a collecting fad back in the 80s/90s. Maybe searching chintz ware or similar might yield some info.

The lovely people at www.replacements.com cannot identify this dish either.
I have found an identical back stamp in a book that I could flick through online.

    via www.issuu.com
Page 138 picture 6 shows the logo plus '4550' and 'T'.

I've also been through every page of the Chintz Guide from the same year, saw a dreadful picture which looked similar on page 60 so Googled Jacobinia and there it is!

I think I will have to contact the Potteries Museum to ask if it's rare.
Thank you everyone for your help.

    Hi Diewarner,

I have been searching for a piece of pottery made between 1934-1938, from the lithography department of the royal winton factory in Shelton. My great grandmother worked there at this time and her name was Deakin, I believe that the piece you have was made by her as it is marked with a D.

I would love to buy this item from you and gift it to my great grandmother for her 92nd birthday. Please let me know if you would be willing to part with it.

    Many thanks, Laura
