Hello, new person here. Wondering if you can help me out in pinpointing the date, region and what the bottom mark means?

The limited research I’ve done leads me to think it’s Kyotoware Satsuma, depicting the Meiji period with heavy moriage- guessing maybe 1930 or so?

There’s a single black mark on the bottom that I can’t figure out what it means, but it could be a numeral. My husband thinks there might have been a subtle inkless imprint (visible in the zoomed in photo of the bottom- looks like 5 lines and a half circle to the right of the black mark and they glisten in this view.

This was inherited and my Mom believed it to be valuable because the family who it came from was well to do, but I’m thinking it’s not. Can anyone help me value this? Thank you for any help you can provide!

You are correct, late period Japanese Satsuma ware, late Taisho or Showa period. The mark on the base is probably '10' a batch number or similar. Such items are not very valuable, they are not popular in the home market which holds them back a lot. You don't mention size, but in the UK for a 12" example they are readily available from £20-50 in the auction market.

That’s a bummer. I won’t mention the relatively low value to my elderly Mom- I think it would break her heart.

The modest monetary value shouldn't affect it's importance to your family though, it still has history and is something you can pass on along with the memories. My favourite item is my grandfathers pocket watch he carried with him through the battle of Passchendaele, it's monetary value is next to nothing, but it's history to our family is priceless.
