    Hi all,

Anyone ever seen anything like this before or know where I would get info on such or even estimated value. My wife got it from a relation recently:

Beautiful micro-mosaic necklace, the micro mosaic pendants were made in Italy and probably attached to a 9ct gold chain in the UK. Date guesstimate 1890-1900.
The micro-mosaic pendants could be considered Grand Tour souvenirs.
The beetle doesn't look like a scarab, it is probably an Italian lucky beetle.

Since scarabs are dung beetles which are a different shape, I believe you are right.

Note that Debora links to an 18k item, so don't assume yours has similar value. :)

    Love it!

Looks like a cicada. Off to look up the dung beetle. Of which all I know is what I have read by Gerald Durrell, who seems to have been fascinated by them. :)

Not a scarab, IMO, I used to be interested in bugs as a child and watched them a lot at my Grandma's, scarabs are really cool. Ants, too. Although I was mostly fond of June Beetles, they looked to me like massive buzzing jewels :)
And Durrell was my favourite author - I still remember his fascination and attachment to the whip scorpion Wilhelmina :) I also fell in love with her only by reading his text. And the bitter loss when she was blown off his hand in the open sea when going back home.

The bug looks to me like an exotic fly.

Actually, they are astonishing creatures. They can roll a ball of dung 250 times their weight. "Ancient Egyptians thought very highly of the dung beetle, also known as the scarab (from their taxonomic family name, Scarabaeidae). They believed the dung beetle kept the Earth revolving like a giant ball of dung, linking the insect to Khepri, the Egyptian god of the rising sun."

Look at this guy. It's he sensational? A rainbow scarab
