Featured School Me on this Gold Ring I Bought!

Picked up today from a very nice old Greek jewelry seller at the market. He insisted it was Georgian (by which I assume he meant 'Regency').

It's 15ct gold, but that's all I know. I don't know how old it is, or anything.

What can we deduce as to age & manufacture, based on what we can see here?



The marks are:

*Something* (Crown for Sheffield? Maybe?).
"15ct" for 15kt gold. (625).

And what I initially thought was a maker's mark.

It reads: "F-SER" I have no idea...

It's a pretty ring, though

 

It looks heavily worn....

 

Yeah it's been 'round the block a few times. I even had a go at re-rounding it to get its shape back. This is after 10 minutes on mallet and mandrill:

 

Done a bit more research, and I now believe it to be mid-Victorian. 1860s, 1870s.

 

The crown mark is for gold (rather than Sheffield). Engraved rings do go back in time a long way, but the way the 15ct is stamped looks more like a Victorian period example to me. I take it the date letter is too rubbed to be able to make out?

 

15 carat wasn't even a standard until 1854...

Looks 1870s ish to me with that engraving. I think that's a duty head

 

The marks are:

I have no idea. There's no other marks.

These are the only marks on the entire ring.

 

I would put money on someone helping with that third mark now we can see it.

 

I reckon the left hand one is a very very worn duty mark. Don't think that's an S, I suspect the remains of an assay office, and maker's mark is E R.

I don't have an original Jackson's Goldmiths marks, but there's several.

So how *should* I be reading these marks? Because I'm totally confused....
