Featured Scrimshaw

Golf is more boring. Basketball got me to Finland, Estonia, England, Belgium, France, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Switzerland so I can't complain. The drawback was herding 40 teenagers around, but it was worth it.

 

Maybe. I was done with it after I was bored to tears at my first high school game but full contact golf might be more interesting... No?

Here is a sentence that tells a lot about the subject;"When a piece unique scrimshaw was handed to a panel of "experts" at one of the first Kendall Whaling Museum Scrimshaw Symposiums, there were as many opinions about the piece as there were panelists!"

 

Antiques got me into this country's as well! ;-) And the USA(Baltimore at that time ) with the big militaria shows know as the Max show (back then!).

 

Just had a hopefull reply from one of the "panel members (experts)", mentioned in my previous post.
And bottom line says;
"The style of yours appears to be the same as other known examples we have seen. It is hard for me to authenticate the piece by just looking a e-mailed photos however."

 

It was approved genuine, last sunday at the Antiques Road show in London!
I wanted to post a picture, but it seemed to large.

It shows how auction houses, staff and theyr customers can go wrong.
There was only one bidder against me.
But I have to ad that scrimshaw isn't that comoun in our region.

Hey, thanks a lot.
I was in contact with the museum but they couldn't do much.
At first they were reorganising the place and then got a answer that they don't have any scrimshaw from the hand of Roderick, to compare with...
Maybe a opportunity for them to aquire one, because I am going to sell it.
Here it is laying on a velvet cushion at the Antiques Road show.
