    Hi there,

I was hoping to find out some information regarding a sewing box / storage device that I have recently come across. I've scoured the internet, there is little information other than its possibly from the 1950s (judging by the shape of the legs that would seem accurate)

Below I have attached a few photos, one of which includes some kind of makers mark.

Any information would be of great use! Thanks for your time.

Looks good for mid-century, sort of "Danish" feel.

Agree with MCM or a bit later. Can't see mark well enough to make anything of it. All I can say is that I don't think it is American.

Thanks for your response verybrad - here is a slightly closer image of the markings. I'm afraid they are nearly impossible to make out, but if I were to guess it looks like "FOREIGN GB" or "FOREIGN 3B"

for some context - the item was bought in London.

British. Or at least, that style got made here. 1950s. I've always though they were trying to sort of emulate the Isokon Donkey.

Aha, London is useful. Foreign was sometimes used for origin countries we were a bit cross with, as in Germany post WW1 and Germany/Italy/Japan after WW2. It did also get used generically, but may be a clue in this instance. I suspect German.

Post-World War II Germany would certainly fit with design.

Thank you all for your responses - would the Germans still be using slot drive (flathead) screws circa 1950? Perhaps this would've been for British tastes?

I agree, it looks more German mcm than Danish mcm to me.

I believe the design is British, but I need to dig out the cite. We were most certainly commissioning stuff from there: all part of rebuilding. And yes, slot heads would still have been used.
