In all honesty I searched for 'W H Roh' into the search bar on find art info and it came up with the goods. I will try this in future when only a few letters are clear.

 

I was on my phone when I saw this and did not really have the time to research further. Just a good guess based on what I could see after Aquitaine tweaked the signature. I think this is really where the credit lies. Otherwise, I never would have gotten it.

Today I went and picked up this painting from the sorta-local guy who buys, sells, and restores art. A totally fair price, and a significant improvement I think:

 

Brought out a lot in the piece-beautiful.
