Silver belt? Not very shiny, so low grade maybe? Or does the green on some of the plaques mean it is plated? Mainly would like to know the origin of course.
I saw a very similar one on internet a while ago: anteeka.com/products/vintage-low-silver-hand-woven-bedouin-belt. The seller told me she bought it with other yemeni jewellery, but thought it might have gotten their through old sea faring trade routes.
    Anyone more info/ideas?

I'd test it, but my first thought on seeing something like this is "white brass", i.e. a nickel alloy.

Probably very low grade silver, below legal standards. Maybe .500.
Hadramaut in southern Yemen has always traded with India, and styles went back and forth. Hadrami style often looks Indian, which can be confusing. I have Hadrami necklaces which could easily have come from NW India.
Hadrami women are famous for weaving silver wire. Which, again, is also done in parts of India.

John, since you have an interest in Indonesian art as well, there is also a distinct Hadrami presence in Indonesia, which is occasionally seen in styles from both regions. The Arabs in Indonesia are nearly all Hadrami.
Trade routes between Java and the Middle East, even extending to Egypt, already existed in antiquity. Ancient Javanese glass trade beads have been found at the Berenike archaeological site in Egypt.
