    Hi,
Just got this lovely box, it was not expensive, but very pretty.
I wonder what are your thoughts on it?
Is it a pill box? And what is this design called?
Any idea where it was made?
It’s not hallmarked, but tested as silver.
    Thank you all.
    Kind regards,
    Simona

    More likely a trinket box.

Pill box size. When I see carnelian & turquoise together on silver, my first thought is always one of the Himalayan countries. But the silver work seems wrong to me for that, so my second thought is China. AJ will know.

Tibet or Nepal is my guess.

I agree, Himalayas, most likely made in Nepal. A trinket box, or 'whatever you want it to be box'. I have a few too, I love boxes.;)

Can you tell me a bit about the design, I can search maybe the internet.
How old do you think it is?
    Thank you.

I wouldn't spend too much time on research. This type of work is typically made by Nepalese silversmiths who copy different styles. These boxes are exported worldwide.

Nepalese silversmiths work throughout the Himalayas, and many work in Nepal making other Himalayan styles. In this case the style is Tibetan, but the maker may not have known the meaning of every detail.
In Tibetan silver the row of little repoussé shapes represent lotus petals.
You could say the flower on top represents a lotus flower.
The flower is coral and turquoise, the classic Himalayan combo.

As a gross generalisation of the three main Himalayan nations, the Tibetans are known as the priests, the Nepalese as the artists, and the Bhutanese as the farmers.

This is the style your box was inspired by: An antique Tibetan piece with filigree, repoussé lotus petals, and a central flower:

Thank you Any, these details add so much meaning to this pice. I took the time to read on symbolism of lotus flower, beautiful.

In Buddhist symbolism, the lotus represents purity of the body, speech and mind, as if floating above the murky waters of material attachment and physical desire. The Lotus flower is regarded in many different cultures, especially in eastern religions, as a symbol of purity, enlightenment, self-regeneration and rebirth. ”

    Kind regards,
    Simona
