    Hi All, I went to sale today, someone told me there was some Christmas lights in one of the free boxes outside so I went to check them out. So glad I did, these pieces were in one of the boxes:) I suspect they were in there because of the rust and green stuff on the silver and the glass is broken/damaged on the mirrors. This was a professionally run estate sale, they are fairly new to the area and I've never been to one of their sales before but I'll make sure to go to them now. Maybe they don't know British hallmarks? All pieces are marked except for the one handle that has been cut off, I'm thinking maybe from another mirror? The other mirrors have the hallmarks on the back of the mirror part, the pattern is the same so I'm sure it is sterling also. A plus is that I can see what is inside the handle:)
    I've never seen green on silver like this - should I clean it off before scraping? With the rust on the tool things I don't think they can be saved so they will go for scrap also. The 3 lidded pieces I will clean up and save to sell separately. The bracelet is marked sterling and maybe 925, hard to see until I clean it up. It has lots of the green on it, hoping it come off. I'll try with soap and water and go from there unless someone knows a better way to clean it:)
    any information appreciated
    thanks for looking:)

    Score big time!!!! :jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop::greedy::greedy::greedy::greedy::greedy::greedy::greedy:

    Personally, I might try cleaning up a couple of the pieces just to see how they clean up. I will lay odds that a piece of fine sandpaper will take the rust off the manicure & button hook pieces.

    In the end, if the pieces don't look good with a little cleaning you can still take them to the scrappers. My guess is they will take off some weight for manicure tools & the button hook just like they do for dinner knives with stainless blades. :happy:

    thanks Ladies:) not quite the words I used, same meaning:)

    thanks for the tip Peggy, I'll give it a try this weekend.

    I tried soap and water on the bracelet and it is coming along nicely! I can see the mark now, not 925 as I thought:) I'll have to see if I can find who made it. I'll clean the green off the other pieces before scraping

    DINGDINGDING! Now THAT is a nice pile out of the free box!

    if they don't know British or Euro hallmarks, definitely get on that list! Who knows what else they'll toss out.

    Wow they really blew it for their clients there. Silver, even scrap sells every time. Those boxes are fantastic! Great score for you!! I’ve found out the hard way that verdigris and associated metal diseases are contagious. If these had been stored in a stable environment with just silver items this probably wouldn’t have happened. In the right environmental conditions next to some cooper, bronze, or brass items the “disease” might have jumped to this stuff and caused verdigris where it wouldn’t be super likely to have occurred otherwise. Clearly there’s enough copper in sterling for it to be possible, just not super common. You’ll have to let us know what the total weight is! Jealous!

    It gets worse; I just saw the Dingwall mark on the jar lid. And the dingbats threw that OUT?! IIRC that means someone shopped at everloving Birk's for it...and the estate guys tossed it. Birk's is/was a Canadian department store, and they didn't sell the cheap stuff.
