I have this silver kantharos from pompeii, what would be the price for it?

Who can help authenticate it? Or at least give an approximate value?

It is marked at the bottom, 800.

It is an authentic reproduction. At best, it is an authentic Grand Tour souvenir.

So probably made in Italy, long after 79AD.

At a minimum it is worth the melt down value of the silver, which is about $15/ounce just now. After that, it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. Nothing has an absolute, unchanging value.

I agree. It is a beautiful replica.
The 800 mark was never used in Roman times. I believe it began to be used in the late 19th century, probably in the 1870s. In 1934 official Italian hallmarks were introduced, so I would place your kantharos in the late 19th-early 20th century.

The good thing is, you won't be persecuted for handling an item looted from an Italian monument.

    Or prosecuted.

That's the one.:hilarious: Lately I have to re-write just about every word I write.
    Otherwise I'm fine.:wacky:

Technically it would be both, first persecuted and then prosecuted.:hilarious:

Do you? Please tell us what you already know. It would probably be better to start a new thread for the knives & put them in the Militaria section where more people who know about knives will see them.

I see it is one knife & a pair of chopsticks. We have had these before. @Any Jewelry who is it who collects these?

Persecute is what we do to people who ask about dodgy antiquities.

I think the chopstick holder is called a Trousse. They will likely ask for better photos, any marks?
