Hello fettan4. Is that the blade?

As I am sure you know the picture shows the stamps sideways. Can you get a better look at the ones on the ends of the line up and also of the whole knife? Thanks

The animal second from the left looks like the Canadian beaver. I will check on the minimalist list of Canadian makers.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Changed it around a wee bit......But I see @fettan4 nicely posted more pics!!! However, if you're using flash or a light bulb right overhead, it's hurting what we can see clearly!! Just bright daylight is usually great!!!:):)

Meant to mention. Since there is no "sterling" stamp, it's likely silver plated. Sterling does not keep a good sharp edge. I take it there are no marks on the handle?

Not having a "sterling" stamp means nothing. There were probably hundreds of thousands of sterling pieces sold/traded by the Hudson Bay Company in Canada and the U.S. from the mid 18th century to the mid 19th century which possibly had the beaver stamp and no "sterling" hallmark. The OP should check the blade with a magnet.

    other speculation here.... https://www.smpub.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/001000.html

Well, not having found a central source for the earlier Canadian makers I will certainly admit that it's possible to be sterling or the Canadian equivalent of US "coin" which is also not necessarily marked as such or even as to fineness %. Checking with a magnet is always a good idea.

Pretty sure this is what the old dealers called the "wombat" mark, a spurious plater's mark (I could be wrong though, it was a long time ago I ran across it.):oldman:

..and doesn't the leftmost (sideways) shield say "EP"?:wideyed:

Yes, you have right, the leftmost shield say EP.

Left most? Don't you mean right-most from the viewer's perspective? I can't see anything useful in these less than focused pictures of that side.

The EP sideways mark pretty much guarantees it to be silver plate ..EP=Electroplate

The far right mark looks like a "C" in an acorn.

If that's what was there, I would agree with your statement. But that does not look like EP.

The OP already confirmed that was the mark!
