Dear friends in here. I have this small brooch, approx 2,5 cm in diameter, that i believe is English and silver. However, i can find no mark whatsoever, and i am wondering if anyone knows anything about an item like this, and how to determine if it is silver or not. I do not expect it to have any important value at all, but i do like to find out as much as possible about the items i have, and here i am totally in the blue.. Anyone knows? 2019-01-24 10.07.53.jpg 2019-01-23 20.39.40.jpg 2019-01-23 20.40.05.jpg 2019-01-23 20.40.23.jpg 2019-01-23 20.41.02.jpg 2019-01-24 10.08.03.jpg 2019-01-24 10.08.11.jpg

Could very well be silver, the only way to be sure is have it tested.

looks like silver......the marks could be very small.....or worn out over the years...

It appears to be hand engraved, does the back unscrew or pop off?I don't see a solder seam holding the front and back together.

it does look thick enough to pop open....

It does look like pry marks around the seam,I wonder if its some sort of locket? My very 1st thought was a button someone made into a brooch.

Small 19th C silver bits and even little gold things were often not marked at all. Front certainly looks silver, the back might not be. The engraving is typically British of that period. mid to late 1800s.

    Polish it.
You may find the marks as you clean it or you may find pitting if it is silverplate.
