Small bench

    Bought in Norway....any ideas?
    Bought at a car boot sale.
    Will upholstery...thinking of stripping the wood... any thoughts?

    The upholstery is just some sack cloth....is it impossible to roughly date? Seen anything similar?
    Perhaps stripping it would damage it?

    Stripping would remove all of its character. The burlap could be replaced, however.

    I am seeing faux grain painting on this so would not refinish. Hard to say age but would think late 19th to early 20th century.

    Love it! But with those legs...I say way earlier...15-1600's. Could we get a peek at the bottom?

    A Norwegian Dragestil (dragon style) bench/stool - as Brad suggests, most likely dates from around the 1880s-1920s, though it could be a bit later too...

    These might give some ideas on upholstery (the last was reupholstered with a modern Missoni fabric, to my eye, doesn't suit the piece):
