Small Black Pottery Pitcher

    It's trying to look like Blackware pottery from New Mexico. It may be a Mexican knock off.

    I agree. It looks like they painted over the original design.

    I would not say painted but black glaze over green.

    I'm not seeing Mexico on the bottom; it might have been a pottery class piece, or a factory emulating the Southwestern design. Those three stilt marks on the base don't jibe with Mexico either.

    What I was able to do was next to impossible.....sorry...the blue is only slightly more readable....but still pretty illegible.....

    Maybe the first word could be Oaxaca?

    OTOH Evelyb makes a good point about stilt marks.

    I bought about 50 small jugs and pitcher jugs of various shapes but all about this size. It was a collection of souvenir liquor bottles mostly from the south west. Many of them were little pitchers with corks. Some worth $50 a piece. This collector had recorded the dates on each bottle 30's- 40's.

    I'd try dusting it with flour and blowing off the excess to see if the filled in letters were easier to read.
