As soon as I saw it, I fell in love with this small box (4.5 inches L; 3 inches W and 2.25 inches H). The only information on it is a paper tag saying "6/6/80 San Marino" on the bottom. The material is a translucent, light-yellow, honey color with variegated black lines. You can see the round cut lines on the bottom piece, while the other sections are polished. The blue flowers are a transfer. The metal work is bright, and it sits on four little feet. Can anyone help with the stone? Also could this be older? Any thoughts and comments will be gratefully appreciated.

They're Italian. Yours may be a souvenir from San Marino.

Alabaster. Could well be vintage. Lots were imported to the U.S. a while back.

These trinket boxes were popular in the 1970s/80s.
The alabaster has a sealant on it.

Agree with dating. To my eye, this example would fall into earlier period.

Great link. I'll try some searches on San Marino alabaster. I see San Marino does quarrying as a main commerce activity. Thanks for looking this up.

Aha. A trinket box. Another great search term. I think you're right about the sealant. I don't believe that alabaster is so highly polished. Thank you.

So you think this falls in 70/80's time frame or earlier? I think the paper label comes from the collector, as it has a specific date and is not commercial in appearance.

1970s/1980s right dating These were sweet little gift shop items. Not expensive. I would think label commercial.

Thanks. That label is from an old typewriter and you are probably right produced in sheets. I guess I'm just used to modern labels.
