Yes, it's a Navajo rug, woven on a Navajo loom, with traditional Navajo weaving technique. It looks like the side cords have been removed from the last few inches (third photo up from the bottom). It should be a fairly easy repair, if it's done before further unraveling happens.

I didn't see the dimensions, but it doesn't appear to be a saddle blanket, which would be a double, meant to be used folded in half. It would be roughly 30-34" by 60-65" (in that range).

    It's 33 1/4" x 14" so maybe a childs saddle blanket or a sampler ?

A saddle blanket goes on a horse, and therefore the size is determined not by the size of the rider, but by the size of the horse. So there is no such thing as a "child's" saddle blanket.

It's just a rug, table mat, or wall hanging. Navajo rugs are made in all sizes, from tiny little miniatures, to room-size.

I would call it a runner. Might be the right dimensions for a mantel top.
