First off - I hope this is the right forum (It's not military or metalware?)
Anyhow - any info on this 5" knife (open) will be appreciated. I don't even know how to start looking up hallmarks but blade seems silver with 4 of them on it -
    MOP handles? thanks in advance.

See Thomas Marples. One of the examples the compiler has seen was on a fruit knife.

I have 3 in my drawer in my study.

The last time I tried to sell one on eBay.uk they sanctioned me and threatened a complete ban for offering for sale a deadly weapon.

I listed it on eBay.com and it went to the US for around £48

    That's bizarre.

There was an assassination attempt on Louis XV by a man named Damien. He attacked the king with a pen knife. For his trouble, he was drawn and quartered.

A few years ago I had a set of 18 silver German fruit knives (still have them, actually!) that I tried to list on eBay. It must have been something in the keywords but there was no way to list them and after repeated delistings, gave up. :banghead:

Ebay sure must have changed (greedy?) - there are all kinds of knives on there now except the full Auto switchblade types. They do have spring assisted knives though which can be just as fast to open with a bit of practice!!

The problem in the UK is a new law was brought out because young black men in London were stabbing each other and there were multiple gang murders.

    The law basically is;

    it is illegal
    • sell a knife of any kind (including cutlery and kitchen knives) to anyone under 18
    • carry a knife in public without good reason – unless it’s a knife with a folding blade 3 inches long (7.62 cm) or less, eg a Swiss Army knife
    • carry, buy or sell any type of banned knife (the list of banned knives is below)
    • use any knife in a threatening way (even a legal knife, such as a Swiss Army knife)
    • Lock knives (knives with blades that can be locked when unfolded) are not folding knives, and are illegal to carry in public.

The maximum penalty for an adult carrying a knife is 4 years in prison and a fine of £5,000.

eBay in their wisdom just put a blanket ban on selling knives, however cutlery was allowed.

I had lots of fruit knives, military knives and bayonets which I could not list in the UK so I listed them on dot com US.

Then the Post Office put a ban on shipping knives too.

Its just not worth the hassle of trying to sell them online now.
I will take all mine to a military auction one day.

I carry an array of knives when working to use as tools.

Meanwhile the young black men are still killing each other on a daily basis with knives.
