Small metal tips or bits - for woodworking?

    Each of these little bits is about 5/8" long. They are numbered - some with two different numbers. For example, one is stamped 6, another stamped 7, then another stamped 27 on one side and 30 on the other.
    Are they router bits?
    The garage where I got them has both mechanics tools and woodworking tools.

    Probably for 'centering' stock in a lathe.

    They look like punches....

    hummm....or maybe for engraving metal??

    Don't think so... the taper is a likely clue.

    The clue here is the Brinell hardness scale.

    I suspect these are a set of tips for hardness testing.

    I wondered why they would be numbered when many seem to be very much alike.
