Small Vase with Raised Flowers - Thoughts on Origin and Date?

Discussion in 'Pottery, Glass, and Porcelain' started by finding_antiques, Oct 23, 2019.

  1. Good evening,

I purchased this small lidded vase at a thrift store and am having trouble dating it. I believe it's German, however would appreciate any insights on origin or date you may have.

    Thank you

    A vase wouldn't have a lid.
    Size?
    Looks like a sugar bowl.

Not so sure it is German.
    Wait for other comments.

I'd have said post war Italian.

@finding_antiques I'd say you are on the right track with a Germanic attribution, looks like continental hard paste for sure ...difficult to say when though - the pale green on the rim reminds me of some Thuringian porcelain, maybe try comparing modelling and/or coloration/gilding with other known manufacturers from the area.

Hm. Not seeing Coalport quality on the original piece or the ones from Antiques Atlas.

  8. Thanks @Ownedbybear - do you suspect the original piece is from the same time period (19th century) or a later production?

    Like I said, much later, 20th C.

@blooey - we did make hard paste. Did you mean that? ;) New Hall, for example.

Hybrid "hard paste" - not really the same as the German body.

I hope you're not suggesting this piece is late 18th/early 19thc?
