No huge sale but happy to have made it. If you recall, picked this up for $40.00 at a thrift store. Sold for $165.00 on fb marketplace after several weeks. Had no one locally interested. Met an Indianapolis buyer over in Indiana halfway between us for the sale. He was thrilled with the purchase.

Gave me an opportunity to hit a couple shops in Covington, IN while there. They were a total disappointment :( Both shops have been there forever and I have been going to them for over 40 years. Used to be good and I would go several times a year. Has been at least couple years since I have been. I certainly will not make a special trip to go back.

Congrats!! I can see why they were thrilled. I have a similar one in orange in my breakfast nook.

I can see why the buyer did the happy dance. As for the thrifts, they sound like home. I used to spend a pile in the local Goodwill; I once scored a Chanel bangle for $6 and flipped it for over $400, but these days you're lucky to find undamaged Pfaltzgraff. There's no jewelry at all, even kiddie plastic.

I was looking to buy a painting in a charity shop a few weeks ago however it wasn’t priced. When I took it to the counter to asked they told me to wait so they can do an image search check and research the artist and they will then price accordingly. In some shops it seems everything remotely interesting or potentially’good’ gets checked or set aside or send to ‘head office’ or some relevant dealers get called directly. Really takes some alot of fun and allure out of the hunt!

My best buys come from smaller OOAK thrift stores. There are couple in smaller towns that I hit semi-regularly. This light fixture came from one of those.

Here in town we have a large independent one but they have gone to having a "botique collectibles" section where they do look things up. They still miss quite a bit that ends up on the general racks. Also, the manager is a wheeler dealer, particularly if something has been out for awhile. It is not unheard of for him to give me half off the botique price. This store is my go-to place for buys and I hit it multiple times per week.

I still shop Goodwill and, less-often, Habitat for Humanity but their prices have gone sky-high. Goodwill seldom puts anything good out at any price. Both Goodwill stores are in convenient locations for me so I do pop in from time to time to have a look. Habitat has kind of screwy hours that are not as convenient and is a bit out of the way. I am lucky to make it there once a month and usually walk out empty-handed.

While not the best for the flipper, I gotta say that's a good compromise and business sense for someone with a store. He gets first crack to sell it retail to the locals and then has the sense to turn over stock (and make some profit immediately) when no one is buying. He sounds like a good guy.

u do that before putting an item out for sale.....

next time u go in there..... pick up a dozen unpriced items.... take em to the counter... be Really excited..... and when they tell u to wait around until they can take the time to find the highest internet prices they can..........
...Tell them , that you're on your way to the clinic for a Covid test..... so u don't have time to wait ............start coughing.. and leave . :woot:

Omg. I had a goodwill employee do that to me after they forgot to price a cheap Avon bottle (it reminded me of one my grandmother had and wasn't something I was buying to flip lol). The very young person marked it up ridiculously telling me it was "an antique." Uh nooo. Then she tried to prove it by scrolling asking prices of different Avon bottles on ebay. Kiddo, they all price differently. I don't think one in the shape of a coffee grinder that is missing it's parts is that coveted but it's cool they saved me an impulse buy.

Avon bottles... if I see those priced singly at a tag sale I usually want to just turn around and walk away. If anyone, anywhere, wants to look up the price on something I say "no thank you. Hard pass." and walk away. To said sellers: If you were too foolish to put something good out unresearched and are foolish enough to believe online prices, I'm not foolish enough to fall for your garbage.

No. I lost interest after all that jazz. They eventually just made up a rather high price.
