Souvenir Paperweight? Coin? Origin?

Discussion in 'Metalware' started by Narrative_Mercantile, Sep 14, 2017.

  1. Hi everyone,
We recently acquired a stash of random objects from a wealthy family that did a lot of travelling around Europe, bringing back some very nice valuable souvenirs.

Then there is this odd coin thing. It is heavy crudely sculpted double-sided disc. On one side is a mans face, could be a Rabi? The family was Jewish... And the letter "H".

On the other side a sleeping fox? Dog? Deer? And the letters "HAT".

It is stamped ITALY (I believe).

Unsure of the metal composition - it has a brassy tone

Just trying to get some direction on what this thing is???

    Thanks everyone!

Sorry if the images didn't work. Every forum seems to be a bit different.

My wife just discovered it might be a replica of Greek coin? Featuring Silenus (the man) ... sorry to answer my own question!!

Anyone else have any information on souvenirs like this?

    Thanks again.

Komokwa has a good point, It does say Italy on the dog side, it may have a 925 somewhere else on it.

I think it has a impression right after Italy...

Whoever cast it did a poor job,it's full of porosity and probably looks like a sponge on the inside.

  10. Thanks everyone! Great feedback! Yes - I'm assuming it was a cheaply made tourist souvenir. I don't see any other markings on it at all.

    Thanks again!
