Featured staffordshire gravestone ? subject figurine

hi folks

trying to work out the subject matter for this staffordshire piece

maybe a gravestone ?, has numbers, equations ? on it

has a flat bakers boy type cap placed near it

got to all mean something right ?

cant find one like it

any thoughts appreciated

 

My guess is it’s a milestone and the hat is the man’s who appears to be hot and has taken it off. Have found similar for Llangollen but on that figure the distance and place are clearly legible.

perhaps an illiterate decorator.

Correct I think— the figures tell you where the stone directed you. Welsh pairs, for example, show a woman in a molded Het Gymreig, the London pairs tend to be a bit dandified in my experience— the originally slipware mold might have been one of the latter.
