    Hi Komo,
That was my first reaction also. Now that I swallowed some coffee I'm not so sure.

Letter rack, we call them. I think olive wood. Probably brought back from Spain.

I agree on the olive wood. It looks post-WWII, but probably pre-Restoration, i.e. 1950s-1970 from the felt on the bottom and the overall shape.

Very well could be olive wood. Also looks a bit like elm. If such things were commonly made in olive wood, I think it more likely. I also think post WWII but not many clues to go on there.

Not many Yews around any more. :(
A radio station north of me is on Yew Tree Rd.
No clue if there are any there.

I just recently bought two new small cheese boards and they were olive wood, and that's what I immediately thought........or at least something very similar!!!! I love the graining!!

The French and Spanish still cut down olive trees, apparently. The Israelis don't, so if you find bigger pieces of it they're generally from southwestern Europe.

The Spanish stuff is often made from pruned branches - trees as old as time, and sometimes branches have to go.

Ok. I thought olive wood at first, but thought the streaks were lighter and red compared to the more common dark streaks.
and the pegged/doweled construction seemed pretty laborious.

My GUESS would be a Record Cabinet. The player (Victrola) would sit on top, with the records stored below. The drawers below would hold the extra needles etc.
    That is just a GUESS!

If it is of the correct size....
    I should've known this!!!! :(
That's why the dividers are notched out!
So as to pull the records out.
Usually a simple curve, these are very nicely done.
