I got this pin a while ago and I'd like to find out if it's a Mardi Gras mask or a representation of a certain culture or ethnic group's ceremonial mask?

The back is stamped "STERLING" with a tiny maker's mark before. The lower part of the mask is polished and the top has an acid/satin finish. Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance! Sterling_GIlt_Fancy_Mask_Pin_1.jpg Sterling_GIlt_Fancy_Mask_Pin_2.jpg Sterling_GIlt_Fancy_Mask_Pin_3.jpg

My first instinct would be archaeological revival - Greek, Trojan Hoard, Roman, etc. Something like that or a riff on same. Someone else may know better.

When I see masks, I think of Isabel Canovas.

I was thinking toward Aztec/Mayan themed, but that's just a WAG.

Can you get a close up of the mark?

    I'm thinking Knossos or thereabouts.

I checked into all the leads and didn't find anything really similar in Knossos, Crete, Canovas or the spelter statue lady. As @evelyb30 suggested, arch. revival may be the general idea.

    Is @Any Jewelry around?

I don't see Greek, Roman, Etruscan or Mycenean here. Mesoamerican would be my guess too. Maybe a museum reproduction piece?

The floral motif of the headdress doesn't look like Latin American to my eye. I'd expect it to be geometric.

I'm wondering if it may be a museum gift shop piece?

Wow! That mural has a lot going on! A LOT! Maybe it's loosely related to some culture or ethnic group, maybe it a Museum gift item, maybe an interpretation of a Mardi Gras mask. But, at this point, I probably better move on to some things we may have a chance of ID'ing. Thanks all for your input!
