I’d like to know more about these please.
The first is a two coloured glass or stone base with a little star and turquoise gem. Unmarked but I don’t think it’s gold. Test is a bit vague.
The second is a gold knot but I am befuddled as to if it is gold or not. It feels like gold, has that depth of shine and feels silky ( a bit like a shampoo advert) but is unmarked. The pin part is made of squared off metal that I associate with 1920s rolled gold and the knot is shaped like those pinchbeck brooches but there is no loss of plate anywhere. The acid test is somewhat inconclusive again in that some of it is eaten at 9 and 14ct but enough left clearly visible to make me wonder.
Only £2.50 each so a bargain and lovely things even if not gold.
Does the style tell you their age?
    Thanks for looking :)

The knot is made of tubing.

    Haha
I also found this nice bit of coral in the same box. It’s been used for something as has some metal pins in it so maybe a large hat pin or brooch. I am completely incapable of walking past sad coral. It was only £3 so a no brainer and it came home with me.
There were some coral beads in with costume tat on another sellers table. I spent time, picked them out and asked a price and lo and behold oh sorry those aren’t for sale. Well why are they on the da*n table then, obviously just to waste my time . That happens all the time and drives me nuts. Agree with AJ, look late 19th C. The one is agate, cut through a band so you get two colours. 8 Carat gold is a possibility, turns up regularly in the UK on late 19th/early 20th century items.

Hmm, I didn’t think of that. Thankyou.
I may buy some new acid too, mine is pretty old now.

Try Mary on the stone one, agate will test as quartz :)

I'd say both are late 19th. The turquoise one is especially typical.

Did you test the star? Same color as Persian turquoise. Very sweet pieces.

Same here. Mens' tie pins. With these the win is often finding the original clutch. I've been known t buy an ugly 70s stick pin because it had an early 1900s clutch on it.

By clutch do you mean the diddly thing that goes on the end so you don’t spike yourself? Would these have had one or do you just live dangerously?

Imported from Germany perhaps? With 8ct I immediately think Germany, and they manufactured a lot of jewellery for export.
Agree, it looks like Persian turquoise, which was used a lot at the time.

Certainly possible, although there are also English pieces especially during the Art Deco, marked 333

    kyratango Bug jewellery addiction!

Agree with all that was said above!:)
Tubed gold can be considered for the knot, but I have the feeling it is solid low carat.
:mad::mad: for the time waster exposing coral and saying not for sale:muted:

Exactly. The real ones had a clamping mechanism inside of some kind. The new ones just push on. Until they don't stay on any more. These may or may not have had one. Probably didn't; I've never seen a cluch with a patent mark from earlier than 1906.

Almost certainly Persian turquoise, we used loads of it.
