On MAD recently, I had no clue Colt was involved with wicker furniture and, very high-quality wicker at that!
"Most people know that Samuel Colt was an ingenious firearms inventor and industrialist who popularized the revolver and initiated the Colt’s Patent Fire-Arms Manufacturing Company, but few are aware that he formed one of the earliest American wicker furniture industries in the late 1850s."

And very nice too, although a bit too fussy for my taste. It was the fussy period.;)

Colt was a pretty smart guy, he planted French willow ( a method he picked up in Holland) on his dike to prevent flood damage to his Arms factory, and the next thing ya know, he's importing the best German weavers in Europe to deal with all that willow!....

Sam Colt was no dummy, but I bet Elizabeth (even less of a dummy) was behind the wicker. Turn a problem into an asset. His original factory is now living space, artist quarters and the like, and given the location planting something that sucks up water is a good idea. (if you're wondering, I live about 5 miles from the original factory location)

I think he was referring to the comic satire magazine MAD, you know, Alfred E Newman "What, me worry".

...and which may have a little too much in common with the other M.A.D. at the moment for anyone's comfort.

    True, that I was.

Oh and by the way, Alfred Newman the composer, father of Randy and Thomas was not given to What Me Worry, that was Alfred Neuman

Accidental humor, satire and wishful thinking. Then again some antiques dealers have been in that vein of making me laugh for years now.
