terra cotta jug

I wondered how old this jug could be. It has allot of use wear.

 

In a traditional style, of course, but doesn't look terribly old to my eye. Let's see what others think.

That, unfortunately, I don't know. But someone else is sure to. The braided handle is distinctive.

Where did you get it, and what were you told about it?

Any competent potter could make a similar pitcher (oinochoe) today, so it cannot be dated by style alone. I don't see evidence of use, just average careless handling. The bottom looks quite fresh. Is there any staining on the inside?

I would assume it is a modern decorative piece, made in a Mediterranean style.

Looks nice, but I'm not seeing anything old. It would look great on a bookshelf with whatever you think looks good.

 

I marked two areas in red...one along the edge and the other a "loose" rectangle....
the edge definitely has numbers (modern!) and the rectangle done in two colors to try to bring out what looks like it's signed....but faint......another indication it's probably not old..........!??
