    Hi folks

decided to get some shots of the necklace just to get some info about it.
im presuming not too valuable as the amber is in rough form

not professionally made, just strung on a piece of cat gut

its mighty large though, and soo enjoying wearing it. looks great with an open shirt

looks like a mix of different types of amber

    weighs 138 grams !!

    any thoughts or info appreciated

I'd wonder about it being a souvenir piece.

It looks like amber to me, and probably Baltic amber. It is nicer than most chip necklaces, because it has those butterscotch and egg yolk amber chips at regular intervals.

But you can test for copal. The easiest and safest test is UV light. Copal usually doesn't fluoresce, but if it does, it fluoresces white.
So no reaction or white = copal.

I believe those chip necklaces are basically by products and also “rejects” of stones too small to go in other pieces. They’re often sold on nylon thread to be used for crafting, same as garnet and other chips. I agree with aj, this is nicer than most.

No, as obb said, stone chips are by-products. Stone chip necklaces are waste-not, want-not necklaces.;) Not great sellers either.:(
