Featured The Great Big Lot of Antiques (Stick pins, brooches, necklaces, earrings)

The large lot came in on Tuesday, I've been looking through them. Disappointed with some, as certain damage wasn't disclosed, but there are others which are rather lovely.
I'll post the worthys! As always anything about origin, age, and design is very helpful, throw the dictionary at me if you so choose!

A few brooches


These are eye catching to say the least. Between the wars Czech?


The great big one is marked 377. I've seen a few online, but no one seems to know what the mark is from..


Here's the mosaic bracelets, the little one seems a bit older, but its more damaged. The larger one is marked 'made in italy'.


Now these are fun, I may have to add stick pins to my collection subjects...
We also have my grand tour cameo brooch, and that beautiful purple one that I want to try to fix. Its too pretty to be tossed onto a broken heap.

They are both Italian. The little one looks like the one I had as a little girl in the early 60s.

This pin tests for just under 18k, but I need to do another one to make sure its not plated. Its got two marks on it, one which looks like a hallmark, anyone recognize it?



I've tried JMIA and JMMA, its not turned up anything.


Here's a close up of the spiral one, this has an older feel to it, and tests for silver. What sort of age do you think we're talking? I want to say early 19th but theres no black dots (but that was only some higher quality paste right? Not all georgian paste was black dot?).

Now I have to find a stone the same shape size cut and color.....

 

I got a whole lot of bone/celluloid necklaces and broken bits and pieces. These are the intact ones. I've looked for signs of ivory but I don't think I have any.



This is a Southeast Asian tourist piece right? Bone?

These are some of the 'good' bits, aside from the pins and GT brooch in the earlier photo. I think I'll grab the green brooch and silver earrings for myself. I have to repair the coin purse which I'm well annoyed about because the pictures didn't show the 4 holes it has. But its some sort of silver so that's nice. The coral necklace needs repairing, which again, wasn't disclosed, much like most of the necklaces lol.

I wonder if these earrings are a marriage and the pendants are older? They're a thicker, heavier metal, where as the clips are very light. They also look to be different colors.



This mark is on the Delft earrings. It looks like a 117 or 112..not sure. Sorry its so dark.


The back of this is a mess, I guess it was painted at one time. But this has got that old pin on it. I've tested for gutta and there wasn't a rubber smell.

I was excited about these bugs until they arrived broken. I apparently missed it in the listing photos. Shame as they're marked, the French crab and a makers mark. I can't seem to find info on specifically when this kind of jewelry was popular, all I know is second half of 19th and 1920/30s?
The photos are of the one in better condition.


Now THIS I'm mad about, these go for quite a bit online, so I was betting on selling the brooch to pay back the investment of the lot. The description only said 'lot in good general condition', making no mention or photo evidence that this was missing its clasp. There goes most of the value. Its so pretty as well..

Anyway, there's a bit more but this is getting a little long winded so I shall stop here! Ty for looking. ​

 

Front and back on this one look covered in green corrosion, segregate it or it may spread to the other pieces.

Give it a vinegar bath for about a 1/2 hour, wash with warm water and soap and a soft toothbrush, dry thoroughly. If the greenies are not all gone, try again.

 

Thank you for reminding me! I was going to ask about cleaning it. I didn't know greenies spread, so I shall take it out now.

Well there goes all my tabs open trying to identify ivory I didn't see any lines but that's only in elephants. As I was typing it I did think it might be african but went with my intial thought anyway. Thanks so much AJ! So knowledable as always

 

Ivory can have straight lines, but also those 'fuzzy' lines like on the back of the pendant. The main thing to look for is the slight difference in ivory tone between the lines and the 'background'.
Then there are of course Schreger lines, the famous cross hatching, but that is only seen on rounded parts, so not on the pendant.

The ring is also ivory imo.

 

The other way around, it is ZII, a Dutch mark for imported silver or for silver that was presented for marking at a later date. The Z stands for 'zilver' = silver, the II means second grade silver, .835.
My guess is they were made in Germany for the Dutch souvenir trade.

I also think they are a marriage. Are the pendants silver?

 

Those bright stone ones are indeed Czech. I’ve got some very like, including the square stoned bar one, mine is a vicious blue.

 

Buying odd lots online sure seems (?) like a good way to find jewelry treasure.I'll never forget the micro mosaic 18K Etruscan revival earrings a poster just shared,bought from an online lot !

Yes the pendants tested for some sort of silver content, I'll need to test them again though, I only did it quickly.

Oh vicious is a great word to describe these colors! Fantastic aren't they?

My last couple of lots were better than these, I got about 600e worth of gold for 120e, but that was lucky. I was after the moth necklace and got the gold besides! And we won't talk about how the lot I got the gold bracelet it I only got it because there was a ring with definite hallmarks that turned out to be flaking pieces of something. I've half a mind to throw it away in shame I don't think I'll ever forget those earrings either though! Once in a lifetime find in my eyes.

 

I'm just blind then Good to note about the different shapes having an effect on what you see. More studying is required!

 

I've a feeling if we ever walk by a pair of earrings like that in a shop,my lady's jaw will drop ! Not much in the jewelry realm haunts me-those do.
