The reason I am seeing dragons is that I seem to remember some Knights fort somewhere in my wanderings, possibly in Malta or Kos, that called themselves The Order of St. George. Dragons everywhere! Getting old and losing your memory (plus a whole lot more, except dress size) is not a pleasant situation. :meh:

two kilometers from here there is such a fortified station of the Hospitalers that is now used as a farmhouse.
one road is memorable for me because it was the first long ride I made - the old Route Nationale from Millau - today a brilliant viaduct - towards the south to Montpellier - passing La Cavalerie !, Le Caylar, the famous Cirque de Navacelles etc.. so many old fortifications all along this road.

I would love to live somewhere with that much history, but they won't have me. Things here in Oregon don't have much age on them.

Yup, I find rocks sort of boring. We do have some prehistory sites, but I'm much more interested in Anglo history. The dig team I was on two years ago in Lindisfarne, UK just revealed a really exciting find from the 2019 season! It is a 1200 year old glass gaming piece, possibly from the Viking raids!

In all honesty, I've only tried the UK. I have never been to France, but the language is daunting.

I do speak a little Spanish , so can catch a Latin base now and then, even with other languages such as Finnish, but everyone speaks too fast for me to follow. I do wish people came with subtitles.
