I don't know if the Diaz paintings are Dutch, but the first landscape and sky certainly look Dutch. Those trees and low farm buildings are seen a lot in my part of the Netherlands, the south. We have many fields surrounded by trees like that, one field after another, creating an intimate feel, almost like agricultural living rooms.;) The landscape was created in pre-historic times, and recently received the status of 'national landscape'. That painting is quite attractive. The second one is very amateur imo. He should stick to painting people in the distance. I agree, we have a Sephardic community who found a safe haven here in the Netherlands, but Carlos is not a first name I would expect among them. The Sephardic name Diaz is mostly written the Portuguese way, with an s, and is usually together with another name, eg Lopes-Dias. 'Our' most famous Sephardi was the brilliant philosopher Spinoza. A Dutch Carlos Diaz would probably be first or second generation Spanish. Many came over in the 60s to find work here and stayed. My Flamenco dance lessons were in one of the Spanish community centres in our town.:)
