I bought this today at a small local thrift store - they had just brought it out with a $250 price on it & I asked (and the manager agreed) if they would sell it to me for $120.
I found George Russin who appears to be a well known artist & the signature looks the same/very close.
This is painted on board & measures 23" 37" (art only w/o frame), but in some places it looks like it has a varnish that is turning dark and in another area it looks like you can see the board underneath/where paint ended?
Was this his style? Is this a George Russin painting? Any idea of it's name?
    Any info/thoughts would be appreciated
    Thanks!

Signature doesn't look right to me. Some differences than what I saw online. Maybe a good copy.

Looks like the same severe, "mannish" faces. I'd say you got your money's worth......

I don't know if it's Masonite - I can take some of back paper off; what do I look for?

According to the internet, he painted on masonite. Why don't you put your finger lightly on surface at edge and see if it gives as canvas would or doesn't as masonite would. (While you do that, I'll hust stay here and wait for someone to yell at me for suggesting a terrible idea.)

No reason to be a copy, almost certainly a painting by your guy. Not a bad score.

Good example of his work. (He painted his fair share of clowns.)

Nicely done - looks like you did better than most of his works bring at auction.

Very nice painting, I suspect it is the real thing - congrats. To check masonite board look at the back, you should see (most likely) a textured surface.

I was gonna say most of his works dont even bring that kind of money.

Nice find! GEORGE RUSSIN(1010-2010) was a good artist with an incredible ability for using the palette knife. I have one of his originals I bought at a junk auction about 20 years ago. Probably one of his best. Siamese Dancers in front of a Temple. Incredible. His paintings will continue to rise in value because of the quality of his work. Very similar to David Burliuk, but personally, I think his paintings are better
