Tiny Folding Wall Shelf. Victorian? Eastlake?

    11 inches height. 6.75 inches wide.
    The little flip down shelf measures
    6.75 inches wide and 3.5 inches depth.

    The back. 795 impressed into the wood. 795, a catalog number? A pattern number?

    As you can see, there's a bad crack in the wood on the right hand side. Is there any gentle way to inject glue in there? It's just hanging by a thread, so to speak. Maybe I should just break it off without trying to be gentle, then glue and clamp it. And should I use wood glue or mucilage glue?

    I see people calling similar little folding shelves Eastlake or just generically Victorian. What's the real scoop? :confused: And what kind of wood is this made from? Thanks!

    I have two and have had more at different times. Never saw a number impressed on any. I'm wondering about the fact that the carving is uneven - it should be a mirror image. I wonder if this was a kit of some kind.

    I think this was made at home from a design. Here is one that I made when I was 6. My Gramps helped me with the design, but I had to do the work.
    It has a "hidden" drawer.

    I would not call this Eastlake. Victorian for sure with some elements of Renaissance Revival period. Likely a mail-order or sales premium piece, hence the folding aspect.

    Hi Johnny,
    Thanks, it was my "safety deposit box" when I was a kid. It was a lot of work for a kid but it was the only thing my Gramp said I did a nice job on. He was usually so critical of anything I tried to do. It was supposed to have a tiny handle to open but I thought it was special to have a secrete surprise
