Good eye, Misc! Seller seems to have included photo of a wwii case by mistake, showing a 1944 date which stuck in my head. This AM I looked at it all again and saw his error and sent msg. I’ll also edit this posting. The headstamp photo clearly shows 1917 date, Vickers and Sons, Maxim (maker), and “18 pdr” for the 18 pounder field gun. That gun was used in great numbers in WWI but I’m not sure was still in service in WWII, maybe one of the UK members will comment.

Seller explained: “The ends are different.” More pictures showed that there was a 75mm 1944 case inverted inside the 18 pounder 1917 case. So 2 for price of 1, I guess, seller didn’t know these were two separate items. The 75mm case doesn’t have a lot of value, but she’ll find a place for it I’m sure.

I’ve been wondering something about trench art so I’ll just ask here. I feel like I see so much of it that it seems it couldn’t have all been made during the wars. I imagine people just take spent shells and other items from that era today, make art, and call it trench art? Anyone know how common or uncommon that is?

    You're in the ball park.
Not all of it was made during the war......but I doubt much of it is being made today...

There is also a nice “crow’s foot” type arrow which also indicates British military. You see it on most UK military equipment. If there are two arrows opposite each other, it means the item has been decommissioned. So in theory, every item without a second arrow has been ‘borrowed’.
