Hi all. I'm afraid these are the only photos I have. I'm not even sure they're teak, with that grain. Anyone have any guesses what these are or where they're from? They have a look that they're either made by someone's grandpa or they're a high-end designer item, it could really go either way!

Thanks for any ideas. (Posting from Canada)

And me, and that would be a way more probable wood.

My French polisher / cabinet maker/ furniture antique dealer friend says the back and bottom are Ply and the legs could be Ash.

    I'm just the messenger.

JMHO. a possibility if your friend was American and not French.

Ash is feasible - I'd not spotted the back, it does look like a heavy good quality ply.

French polishing is a specific technique using shellac. The term doesn't mean the person who polishes/lacquers is French.;)
Since Davey is in England, it is very likely his French polisher is neither French nor American, but English.

Not a chair I recognize and looks a bit clunky to be designer. Maybe from an individual or small commercial shop. Does look like ash to me.

@verybrad : Agree with you. Style is a hodge-podge of Danish Modern, Arts & Crafts, and someone's interpretation of basic modern style.

Reminds me of a chair I sat on in our school lunchroom, Sweden, c:a 1952. Institutional issue furniture were often of this type. The legs are a little thicker than I remember them though. But the back was definitely plywood.

Ha ha, thanks so much everyone. Glad to hear I made the right call here and let them go.

Just found the notification in my spam folder - great to see everyone has solved my dilemma. Thanks again!

Looks very Jean Prouve "inspired", but as verybrad said, a bit of a clunky version.
