Not antique.:sorry: A mystery bone kohl bottle with black decoration. The maker was generous with the varnish.;)

The construction and inside of the neck of the bottle are much like that of Turkish (camel?) bone kohl bottles, so for now I've put the photos in my Turkish kohl bottle folder. I could be doing it a gross injustice.

I am hoping to come closer to the origin, and would like some help with the motifs on front and back. They remind me of motifs on Turkmen carpets.
So help please, does anyone recognize the motifs? @komokwa , @2manybooks , anyone?:)

It is ca 8cm/3.15" high, including stopper.

    Thank you for looking.

I know ZERO about this type of thing, but using your instincts on origin, I just looked up some Turkish symbology and came up with a WAG for the motifs.

Probably feel like a complete idiot for even trying when someone comes along who actually knows what the motifs are, but here goes anyway:

Yay, you found them!:woot::woot: Thank you sabre, wonderful!:kiss:
Now why didn't I look for Turkish symbols when I thought it had the same construction as Turkish bottles.:banghead::rolleyes:
Do you have an url for those symbols?:)

Fertility, motherhood, and a dowry chest, of course. Maybe it was meant to be part of a dowry or a wedding present. There is a link with making yourself look beautiful for your wedding, using kohl.

Western travelers in centuries past always remarked on the heavy eye make up of Turkish women which made their eyes look especially beautiful.

I edited the title. A small gesture to the Turkish maker.

I adore the lively banter! And the armchair appraisals, and the sassy know-it-alls that make this place so much fun! There's nothin like a good old fashioned dust up over the age of a chair! :p:D:woot:
