But it’s taking me a while (maybe not very bright) I thought the distinctive shape and brown colour will make identification easy.

But so now I will ask..

What type section of horn is this, please? Has a bit of a funny shape (was thinking obviously a short-horned animal) Looks like it was mounted at some stage and polished. The section is 21cm long, about 7cm wide at the ‘base’ Weighs 0,5 kg.

Thank you for any comments and keep well.

That figures. I was searching horn then went on to tusks also. Will go back to teeth! Thanks

Here's a couple of Sperm Whale teeth of mine for comparison.

Obviously the age of the mammal at death and how the teeth have been stored can change what we see.

Great. Many thanks. The photos for comparison is much appreciated. I suppose it could be. My tooth just looks alot flatter and the outer wall looks thicker (to me)Also looks more pointy? But as you say several factors can play a role in how the teeth look. I will also look at some other examples.

    What do you think?

Ok. Got it. Thanks for the link (very interesting reading). So
a ceremonial whale tooth that’s just awesome. To me one of my coolest (100% lucky,I thought it was a piece of horn) findings.

Did not know that. But,yes this must be rather old. Must have some history and looks like it was cherished and well polished. Very interesting object.
