Type of stone in this necklace

One more question today- are the larger stones agate? Thanks.

Yes, thanks, I believe the smaller beads are freshwater pearls, amethyst, citrine, and clear quartz.

 

Carnelian is a color of chalcedony (translucent microcrystaline quartz); agate is a broad term for formations chalcedony can take. Banded/layered agate is what people usually mean when they don't specify others. Banded agate frequently includes layers that are carnelian in color. Agate formations can transition into more amorphous color distributions. When microcrystaline quartz is opaque, it is generally called jasper. The photo is not adequate for me to determine which of these describes your beads, as I can't tell whether or not they are translucent, but those are the points to look for.

 

Bronwen, I don't see any translucence. I do have quite a bit of carnelian jewelry.... here is a better close-up shot. Thanks for the help!

 

Looks like it was dyed,but doesn't appear to be agate.

 

Jasper maybe?

 

RDR - Random Dyed Rock. It looks like a dyed quartz, but could be just about anything.
