    Hi all,

New to the forum. Here is a recent find I picked up. I have no idea what it is, and could not find any information or pictures on the lamp.

Here is what I do know:
    • The shade is slag glass?
    • The base is solid brass, painted.
    • The lamp weighs a crazy 30lbs.
    • The inside joints of the shade are soldered? Possible hint of age?
    • The Leviton lamp sockets look like a very recent replacement.
    • There are no makers marks or brand anywhere on the lamp.
Any expert knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to the conversations!

    Cheers!

Welcome Laurence. You probably have to resize your photos.

If the wiring is an indicator, I'd guess mid-'60s. I don't know if that type of shade would have been accepted in the '50s. Wiring later-on would have 3 prongs. I don't think that modular style plug would much pre-date the '60s.

Think the lamp is citrca 1970. Shade is a bit older by at least a decade or so. I see a fair number of bent slag glass shades from this era but never one with this ball shape. I am guessing it was once part of a pendant light.

Maybe shade and base started out together? I could be wrong, but just seems like that blue column on the lamp itself is a match. That said, my parent's had a similar looking shade --hanging light in their kitchen over their kitchen table (different colors of slag glass, shades of green including a bit of "avocado") and I think they had their kitchen redone in 1972.

It's a bit unusual and above average for sure.

There is no question that the lamp base is vintage 70s or so. Lawrence, could you post a photo of the shade, removed from the lamp and looking down at the top of the shade?

Here is the photo of the top. The brass painted plate was on top of the shade.

    Thanks! :shame:

Yes, the shape of the shade and the blue color, is what caught my eye, and did not think twice about picking up the find.

    Cheers!

In the picture above, if that top painted section you are holding) fits exactly into the top metal part of the shade, likely all originally together.

It's an unusual lamp! Especially with those colors.

Unfortunately no. The size of the painted plate is about two thirds the size of the top of the shade.
