So this is a mask we got a long time ago, can’t exactly remember the origin though. Does anybody know what culture it might belong to and/or any information pertaining to it? It’s really a beautiful piece of art. I especially like the metal engravings in the front!

It is an interpretation of a Marka-style mask, from Mali.

It was made for the tourist/decorator trade, rather than a mask that is actually used by the tribe, but follows the traditional form in its long narrow shape, and the use of metal sheeting. It lacks the horns or crests found on an authentic mask, probably because they would be more susceptible to breakage during shipping.
