During my ongoing quest to improve my modest collection of Asian ceramics, I recently came across this interesting item quite by chance.

It was described as an antique 'hamper' - approximately one hundred years old - and supposedly of Asian origin. However, the corner figures appear to lizards, as opposed to to dragons, as one might expect from an Asian piece.
I'm aware that there are lizards in Asia, I get the impression that the item originates from the African continent.

Although it's something I wouldn't normally touch, I'm almost tempted to buy it, as it quite appeals to me. However, because of my lack of knowledge in such fields, I'm wary of getting stung - which, I must admit, has happened once or twice in the past !!

What do the REAL experts reckon ??????!!

Any help will be really appreciated ! 842_1045615673.jpg 842_-121773599.jpg 842_1857676184.jpg

It is gorgeous, and genuine. I have no idea what a good price would be though.
Lizard imagery is quite common in the non-state regions of Asia.

Non-state are the regions that used to be called 'tribal' in English. Many were not organized as tribes though.
