Beautiful building. I couldn't live there unless the bucket truck lived there too, to lift me up to the balcony. In university I used to run two or three flights of stairs with no problem. Now, climbing one is a problem. Doing it more than once is a BAD idea.

As I posted it I also thought I couldn't live on the top floor nowadays.;)
I had my first encephalitis infection while I lived in The Hague, just after my 21st birthday. I remember those last few months it took me ages to get to the top floor, I had to rest every few steps. Half a year later I was in a wheelchair.
I don't use the chair permanently anymore, only use it if I have to walk more than 20 meters, which is when "my batteries run out". I am usually at home or get dropped off right in front of the door of wherever I need to be. I am lucky there are still volunteers who are willing to help.

They could make good money selling reproductions. That is an amazing design.

If it was in the USA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art gift shop would sell repros, or have the design on jewelry.

I haven't thought of my brief employment at Hotel Corona in a while. At the time at least the restaurant (maybe the entire hotel?) was owned by Joseph Heinekens.

Just did some digging and looks like the restaurant closed a few years after I left.

The restaurant was beautiful. I was just 30 years old when I was there playing. I recall a customer sending me a small (partial) glass of wine.... from a $500 bottle! ($500, in 1988!) A waste on me because I'm not a wine drinker.

Lucille that must have been such an adventure. I am a wine drinker and $500.00, in Europe back then it must have been outstanding!

    Maybe Freddy Heineken?

You probably met Robert Kranenborg as well, the head chef at the time. Very Hollandish looking, with thick blonde hair. He got the restaurant a Michelin star.
